The Federal Bureau of Investigation, or what is lovingly known as J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI, is being accused of stealing nuclear secrets and selling them to other countries.
Sibel Edmonds, a 37-year-old former Turkish language translator, listened into hundreds of sensitive intercepted conversations. Her accusations are rather serious, as she claims that the secrets were taken as she listened to nuclear weapons secrets where high-ranking American officials which were ultimately sold on the black market to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The FBI has denied the allegations. And Edmonds isn’t the only one making the claim. An anonymous tip by an organization cites that they had received an anonymous tip. The letter said
“You may wish to request pertinent audio tapes and documents under FOIA from the Department of Justice, FBI-HQ and the FBI Washington field office.”
It then makes a series of allegations about the contents of the file – many of which corroborate the information that Edmonds later made public.
Edmonds said that the FBI was working with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan’s spy agency.
She told The Times that she reported her findings to Congress but is under a gag order to speak of it with the media.
“This gag was invoked not to protect sensitive diplomatic relations but criminal activities involving US officials who were endangering US national security,” Edmonds said.
