One of the best things about the Internet is it allows you to anonymously window-shop for stuff you could never possibly afford but would love to buy. It’s kind of like going for a test drive in a brand new Corvette you know you’re not going to buy, or going to the leather goods store in the mall to smell that cool leather trench coat with the belt that makes you feel like a 1970’s private eye. That’s why I love to look at gadgets and accessories, and Smashing Magazine’s 25 mind-blowing products list fits my criteria for window shopping fodder perfectly.
If you’re going to drool over neat new toys, you may as well drool over stuff like amazing-looking $150,000 molded aluminum speakers from KEF Muon or the $600 Zeppelin iPod speaker dock from Bowers & Wilkins. Of course, there’s other stuff on the list that is simply there because it’s neat, like a plain white shirt and black tie patterned laptop bag called the 9 to 5 laptop sleeve and the drink selector mug (just set mine permanently to coffee). There’s cool goodies at every price range, though they tend to be more towards the expensive end of the spectrum
Then again, if you’re going to drool, you may as well drool over things you could never possibly afford, rather than drool over things you’re probably just too prudent to drop $25 on. Dream big, that’s my motto! Why spend time comparison-shopping for a value $300 laptop or some bottom shelf stereo equipment when you can marvel at all things shiny and complicated?
