If you’re anything like me, last night you were standing outside in the freezing winter cold, shivering and staring up at the moon to watch last night’s lunar eclipse. After all, this is going to be the last full eclipse of the moon until 2010, so you had to check it out, even if you’re already fighting off a cold, it’s in the teens in temperature, and MythBusters is blowing stuff up on TV. Fortunately, if you’re smart and stayed indoors, or if you just forgot about it, the Discovery Channel has an awesome interactive flip book and full report covering last night’s astrological talent show.
One of the best things about the eclipse is, because it takes so long to unfold, you can easily poke your head out the door every half-hour with no real danger of missing anything, or you can set up a time-lapse camera and get a great sequence of snaps of the event unfolding. That Discovery gallery is awesome; it’s just a shame you can’t steal any of the images to use as background for your computer, as the eclipse really gave you a great view of the surface features of the moon.
I just hope that all us Earthlings staring up at their home didn’t make the Mooninites nervous. Ignignokt and Err are known for their vengeful nature, so I’d hate to see what they’d do if they were offended by all the attention. On the moon, nerds are spanked with moon rocks, and I doubt any of us wants that sort of thing.
