From the people who brought you “Frozen Grand Central” and “Cell Phone Symphony” comes “McDonald’s Bathroom Attendant!”
Although these are not feature length films, these Improv Everywhere (IE) videos pack all the comedy of any movie into a mere few minutes. Improv Everywhere was founded in 2001 by comedian Charlie Todd. Essentially, IE is a comedy troupe of a very different color. A color Crayola doesn’t even know about.
Their website explains that the group’s purpose is to “cause scenes of chaos and joy in public places.” Their “McDonald’s Bathroom Attendant” mission from February 2005 surely achieved that goal (see section about British school boys and photographic evidence above).
Watch as one IE agent (yes, they call themselves “agents” and their pranks are actually “missions”) stands in a New York City McDonald’s men’s room posing as a bathroom attendant. The video featured below shows an exchange between Ted the manager and the agent, Todd Simmons, performing the mission. Simmons was able to carryout his mission for well over an hour rather than getting discovered and kicked out after a few minutes.
Trouble came, however, when one member of the cleaning staff became suspicious of Simmons and, as the IE commentary assumes, reported his presence to Ted. Simmons explained away his being there by saying that he was part of a promotion headed by the “corporate office.”
All of the IE agents made it out safely, but not before making $6.92 in tips from generous patrons who were all very pleased and not at all confused by the presence of a bathroom attendant in a fast food restaurant. Perhaps it was the fact that the McDonald’s chosen for the site of the prank is on Broadway and features flat-screen TVs for menu displays. Not to mention it’s three stories tall. Or maybe it was just that the majority of the estimated fifty customers Agent Simmons assisted were tourists.
