Paul McCartney and iTunes reached a deal late yesterday that will finally allow the online music provider to make the Beatles catalog available for download.
The details of the contract have not yet been released, but presumably all twelve studio albums from the group will be formatted for online availability. Whether or not their entire collection of officially-released EPs, double EPs and extended album versions will be placed for purchase on iTunes remains unclear.
Gizmodo, the Gadget Guide, reports that McCartney will receive $400 million as a result of the agreement. Don’t be scared–all the other “shareholders” in the Beatles fortune will receive payment, as well.
Ringo Starr and the families of both John Lennon and George Harrison will make off with some cash, along with Sony, EMI and Michael Jackson (remember the time he tricked McCartney into selling him the rights to some Beatles songs?).
As of yet, no official or unofficial dates have been mentioned regarding when the albums will be available for download. Nevertheless, commence drooling.
