It’s amazing when you think about just how long the Internet has been a part of our daily lives, and just how much web content delivery formats have changed. Yet, not everything has changed wildly. Some of your favorite websites, early adopters to the online revolution, haven’t really changed that much in the last 10 years. Take a trip on the Wayback Machine and check out how some popular websites have evolved. Sorry about the David Bowie in the title; I got carried away.
I love stuff like this. One of my favorite things to do is hop onto the Internet Archives to check out old sites I used to write for and see how they’ve changed since I left or since I closed them. It’s amazing how little websites like CNN or Amazon have actually changed. Yahoo is still using the same logo they used when they started!
I guess if you get the design right the first time, you don’t really need to update, other than to take advantage of high speed cable modems, of course. That’s the big driver of changes online. Now that it doesn’t take 30 minutes for a minute-long video to load, you can have more fancy stuff on your website.
