I thought the sweet-tooth criminals who took a seven-week old infant with them when they robbed a candy store topped the list of inept burglars.
That was until I saw this story about a man in Texas who had a six-foot long alligator in his car when he was pulled over after trying to steal a big screen television from a trailer park.
The failed thief, William Johnson, tried to convince a resident of one of the nearby trailers to help him haul his ill-gotten gains out of a home. The would-be accomplice refused, noting the burglar did not live in the trailer from which he was removing the TV. Gator man abandoned the big screen on the front lawn and hightailed it away.
A call to the cops had them on his trail soon after and he was pulled over for making an illegal U-turn. The cops got a surprise when they looked inside the small car. The gator was lounging on the back seat without any kind of restraints.
Upon his arrest, he was found to have a set of hair clippers in his pocket. Looking at his mugshot, I’m guessing they weren’t for his own use.
Believe it or not, there are even more bizarre details involved with this one-man crime wave. He was given a citation a few days earlier for public intoxication. During that run-in with Johnny Law he had a poisonous water moccasin snake in his vehicle.
