The lightsaber bus stop ads had my attention.

Before television , advertising was glued to the end of a crate, usually containing anything from beets to lemons to oranges.

A collection of crate labels shows how marketers tried to use things that struck a nerve with consumers, from pets to sports to babes, to sell their product.

The consumer was obviously swayed by all the colorful graphics. They may seem simple to our eye today, but half a century or more ago, these graphics were cutting edge.
