Chuck Taylor All-Star tennis shoes are everywhere.

I know they are in my closet. I’ve got two pairs tucked in there. That makes me part of 60 percent of all Americans, according to a survey that says more than half of all US citizens own or have owned a pair of the low tech athletic shoes.

The Chuck Taylor has gotten all fancy in recent years as exhibited in the pic above. Sure the basic black and white versions are still available, but the colors and creations that the shoes come in are now boundless.

Converse, the company that makes the Chuck, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. That’s twice as old as the peace symbol.

Matter of fact in honor of the big birthday, there’s a contest where you can come up with a design and have it mass produced.
