People ring in the new year in any number of ways.  Some people shoot off fireworks.  Some people get together with their family and watch the ball drop in Times Square.  Some people throw shoes into the expressway.  Well, okay, they might have not been celebrating 2009, but someone dumped a truckload of shoes into the middle of Miami’s Palmetto Expressway.  Dave Barry’s blog blames it on a convention of Iraqi reporters.

I can only guess as to what might have happened here, and most of it is based on the idea that space aliens came to earth to steal a truck full of used shoes to harvest the soles for rubber.   Either that or some shoe store, rather than throw away their unsold stock of kicks, decided to just overturn the boxes on the freeway late last night.  That way the state cleans up the pile of Chuck Taylors and the folks doing the dumping don’t have to pay to have the trash hauled away.

If anyone finds any nice-looking size 12 dress shoes out there, let me know.  I could use a new (used) pair of nice shoes!
