I used to have incredibly long hair. One of the reasons I got my newly short haircut (I got it cut on Friday, in fact) is because I was sick and tired of dealing with all the care long hair requires. Lots of shampoo, lots of conditioner, time spent with the hairdryer or, if you’re like me, letting your hair aid dry in the middle of winter. That’s a recipe for sickness, and that’s one of the reasons why I do things backwards from normal people. I like to get my shower in the morning to wake me up. Call it a quirk. Fortunately for me, Japan has my answer with the Ultrasonic Bath, a human-sized washing machine!
You know, it’s amazing that someone at Sanyo thought that an all-in-one human-washer, a-la The Jetsons or your local car wash, was a good idea. It is, in theory. Here’s a video of the body-washer in action.
I could see how something like this would be a great idea for hospitals or retirement homes where slipping in a tub could result in serious injuries, or at a pet groomer’s where it might be easier to stick Rover into a dog-washing machine with his head poking out the top rather than trying to wash him by hand. Plus, a quick 15 minutes for both the washing cycle and the drying cycle reduces the bather’s exposure to winter chill, though it’s not as aesthetically pleasing as color-changing shower tiles.
