St. Patrick’s Day is a pretty special day of celebration in the United States, as pretty much everyone and their mother has some inkling of Irish ancestry in their past (or at least a weakness for green beer). Any excuse to get drunk on green beer and have parades is a pretty good one, in my book. For those with permanent Irish pride, check out a nice gallery of Irish-themed tattoos.
One of the most unusual celebrations of the day comes from The Simpsons. For the first time in the show’s 20 year run, an episode is going to play outside the United States before it plays inside the US. That episode, duh, is a St. Patrick’s Day-themed episode set in Ireland. It premiers tonight on Sky1 in the UK and Ireland, and I can only assume will be broadcast in the US on Fox this Sunday.
I can’t wait to see it. I’m Irish myself, and I’ve often thought about getting some kind of Irish-themed tattoo (not an eyeball tattoo) or going to Ireland. Instead, I drink a Smithwick’s or Guinness, wear a green tee-shirt, and root for Notre Dame. That’s… not even close to the same thing, but it’s all I can afford to do right now.
