Freddy Is Back In 2010

Posted 9/29/2009 7:00 am by Ron Hogan

a_nightmare_on_elm_street_2010_poster.jpgNormally I loathe remakes, but I have to admit there’s something about the upcoming remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street that has me kind of excited.  Maybe it’s the fact that Jackie Earle Haley, one of my favorite actors, is taking over the striped sweater and mangled face.  Maybe it’s the fact that the new version is scripted by Wesley Strick, who did the remake of Cape Fear and Arachnophobia.  Or maybe it’s just because Freddy isn’t going to be cracking jokes and being goofy in this one.

That said, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.  For one, while it looks like a pretty good remake judging by the trailer, it’s still a remake.  Even more troublesome, it’s a Michael Bay remake through his Platinum Dunes production company (which specializes in nothing but relatively cheap remakes of classic horror titles).  Transformers is much more Michael’s thing than something like this.  While director Samuel Bayer has done some really good music videos, this is also his first movie.  That’s very troubling.

Still, the proof is in the pudding, so let’s look at the first trailer for the 2010 Nightmare On Elm Street!

A Nightmare on Elm Street in HD

All right, I’m insanely excited for this. Despite all the worrisome details, I cannot wait for April 30, 2010, and the return of the Ginsu glove! My optimism has bitten me before, but since I love Freddy’s new look, I’ll be there.

Revealing what is one of the worst-kept secrets in computing, Google has finally announced that they were indeed going public with the development of a computer operating system, cleverly called Google Chrome OS.  You can read the blow-by-blow coverage of the Chrome OS announcement press conference if you’d like (it’s worth a look for the […]

Pantsless Crook Gets Stuck In The Window

Posted 11/19/2009 6:00 am by Ron Hogan

You know, it’s got to be pretty embarrassing if you get stuck in a wall.  I mean, it’s okay for a cute little hedgehog to get stuck in a wall, because it’s a hedgehog.  It has a brain the size of a walnut; you don’t expect it to be smart enough not to crawl halfway […]

    A Walk In The Park

Posted 11/18/2009 12:30 pm by Ron Hogan

It’s kind of a dreary, wet day here.  I’m not feeling my best, I’m having a bad day at work, and quite frankly, I could use a pick-me-up.  Thankfully, MLW Photography has put together an incredible slideshow video detailing a walk through Manhattan’s beautiful and famous Central Park set to the song “Life in Technicolor […]

    Bomb-Proof Wallpaper

Posted 11/18/2009 10:30 am by Ron Hogan

Neatorama calls it bomb-proof wallpaper.  No matter what you call it, the X-Flex Blast Protection System is quite possibly the world’s most indestructible sheet of paper.  Basically, it’s Kevlar webbing (like the kind you use in a bullet-proof vest) writ large, with an adhesive backing so you can just plaster it to the inside of […]

    Fruity London

Roopa Gulati from the Good Food channel wanted some enduring image that would remind people that food can be fun. Fruit and vegetables are the core of a good diet, to be sure, but there’s nothing fun about asparagus or celery or melons.  That’s why he turned to Carl Warner and a team of designers […]

Large Hadron Collider In Pop-Up Book Form

Posted 11/13/2009 10:00 am by Ron Hogan

You know, for a guy that’s written about the Large Hadron Collider so much, I’m not really sure I understand.  I mean, I vaguely get what it’s supposed to do, but the actualities of the thing?  Not so much.  All I know is that it’s expensive and fragile.  The geniuses at CERN need to dumb […]

Mario And Luigi Mug Cabbie For His Gold Coins

In the wee hours of the morning on November 1, four men hailed a cab after a party.  On their way to their destination, one of the light-fingered men supposedly tried to rob the hack.  Incensed, he pulled over at a gas station and ordered the men to pay up and get out of the […]

Creepy Gnome Prowls The Streets Of Argentina

Juan Carlos Roldan and five of his friends were out one beautiful night in their town of Clodomira, Santiago del Estero in Argentina.  They were singing and dancing, having a good time, when suddenly it struck.  Well, it didn’t strike so much as it came crab-running towards them.  They captured the infamous petido orejudo, or […]

Last-Second Escape From A Speeding Train

There’s a very lucky woman in Boston today, and it’s all thanks to the alert eyes of Charice Lewis.  The subway conductor for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) was pulling into the station when she saw frantic waving from the platform.  That’s when she saw the face pop up in front of her window.  […]

    Roomba Pac-Man

There have been Roomba Pac-Mans before, but never one quite like this.  Using five Roombas, special software codes, and a whole lot of time, three students have designed a live-action, 3-D version of Pac-Man.  The ghosts chase Pac-Roomba, which is controlled by joystick.  When the Pac-Roomba hits one of the power pellets that allows him […]

    Beautiful Fountain Choreography

Posted 11/09/2009 8:30 am by Ron Hogan

This is simply beautiful.  Just what I needed on a Monday morning.  The soothing combination of Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman’s beautiful song, Time to Say Goodbye, and the beautiful sight of the tallest fountain in the world’s powerful sprayers set to lights and music in a graceful dance of H20 and music.

    That fountain, with […]
