Angela Montez, a clerk at an Advance America check-cashing location in Indianapolis, was robbed recently. That’s not terribly unusual; those places get stuck up all the time. What’s weird is that gunman Gregory Smith spent 10 minutes talking and praying with the very person he was robbing after obviously having second thoughts about his outlaw career. Smith would later turn himself in after seeing the video of himself on the local news.
Have you ever seen a weirder piece of video in your life? He comes storming in with the gun, she starts crying. Later on, he starts crying and the two of them start hugging and talking to one another. It’s unbelievable!
Obviously, Smith didn’t really want to do the crime, and while I’m normally very pro-throwing the book at stickup artists, I really feel bad for the guy. A hardened criminal wouldn’t take the time to try to console his victim, nor would he willingly disarm himself repeatedly, including giving her the bullet in his gun. Granted, I don’t feel too bad for him, since he still robbed the woman of $20 and her cell phone, but he’s obviously a pathetic case.
