In what is one of the oddest air travel stories I’ve ever heard, a Northwest Airlines flight had to turn around upon reaching Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Why? Because it was supposed to stop in Minneapolis, 150 miles in the other direction! As it turns out, the pilots missed their destination because of what they say was a heated argument over airline policy.
And if you believe that, I’ve got some land you might be interested in.
The only way these guys could have possibly missed their destination was if they were asleep. It’s as simple as that. They had been out of communication with towers in both Denver and Minneapolis for over an hour by the time they turned around. Not only that, they also missed the bright lights of Minneapolis and the various lights and alarms of their instrument panels. They should have started preparing to land 100 miles before Minneapolis, and the fact that they didn’t means one or both of them dozed off.
