It’s been a rough week for Emely Santana, but kindness isn’t dead in this hard old world. Earlier this week, her home was broken into and some things were stolen. Among the missing items were her television, money, and one very special necklace. It isn’t just any old necklace, it’s a necklace with a vial containing some of her her deceased son’s ashes. She lost her son, 18-year-old Giovanni Perez, in life in June, and lost him a second time when her house was broken into. She can’t get her living son back, but the remorseful thief returned her son’s ashes.
This is the second remorseful thief we’ve seen this week. First there was the teary-eyed, praying robber, and now whoever stole this poor woman’s dead son has returned him. Now, I know people aren’t getting any nicer, so is it possible that nicer people have been pushed into crime by rising unemployment and a terrible economy? Perhaps.
