It’s something of a scary movie trope. Whenever you see some adorable critter, like the Gingerdead Man above, the killer rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, or the Tribbles from Star Trek, you’d better be wary. Much like in real life, the cutest things in sci-fi and horror are usually the most dangerous things you’ll ever try to snuggle. io9 has a great run-down of the most adorable but horrible monsters in moviedom.
I have to say I’m surprised at the lack of Charles Band on this list. Aside from the Gingerdead Man, Charles Band’s Full Moon Features has some of the cutest, killingest critters in horror movies. For example, you can’t tell me all of the Puppet Master puppets aren’t cute, no matter how many drills and knifes get attached to them. The Demonic Toys? Also cute. Band’s company also put out Prehysteria!, a great little movie about absolutely ADORABLE tiny dinosaurs that aren’t deadly at all.
The fact that Band is only on the list once is disappointing, but I guess they couldn’t make it an all-Charles Band list of cute but dangerous monsters.
