As lights get smaller and more powerful, you’re going to start seeing them in more and more places. For example, check out the Galaxy Dress from CuteCircuit. This formal-style gown made of crinoline, chiffon, 4,000 Swarovski crystals, and 24,000 LEDs is a pretty impressive combination of form and function. Assuming you want to function as a reading lamp or decoration, of course.
According to designers Francesca Rosella and Ryan Genz, the designer dress uses the same amount of energy as two household lightbulbs, and is powered by a variety of tiny iPod batteries located throughout the dress. I have to wonder one thing: does it get hot? I mean, not hot in the sense of thick clothing layers hot, I mean hot as in overheating batteries hot. The dress has never been worn, after all, so nobody really knows. Since it’s on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago right now, we may never know (at least until they make another one).
