The holiday weekend is usually a big time for movies to be released. Every Christmas, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and just about every other long weekend is greeted with a release slate full of big-budget movie blockbusters, save one. Thanksgiving is generally a movie wasteland, given that it’s usually a weekend spent with families and full of traveling. For example, this Thanksgiving weekend was one filled with the release of The Road, a bleak post-apocalyptic movie based off an incredibly depressing novel, and a movie about ninja assassins called Ninja Assassin. It’s a weird slate, but there have been a lot weirder Thanksgiving releases, as you can see by this io9 list of weirdest Thanksgiving movie debuts.
For example, the terrible 1984 bomb Supergirl came out on Thanksgiving weekend, but that’s not even the lowest of the lows for this supposed holiday. Can you guess what came out on Thanksgiving weekend in 2008? I’ll give you a hint, and by “give you a hint,” I mean “horrify you with the following trailer.”
