When Crocodiles Ruled The Water

Posted 11/30/2009 7:30 am by Ron Hogan

prehistoric-crocodile.JPG

Once upon a time, they rules the water.  In fact, they were the only creatures that struck fear in the heart of dinosaurs.  They’re also still swimming around the earth today.  They’re crocodiles, and there was a period of history that was When Crocs Ate Dinosaurs.  It’s all part of National Geographic Channel’s Expedition Week!   If you’d like to find out more about the newly-discovered varieties of extinct crocs, check out Dark Roasted Blend for a great image gallery.

Maybe it’s because I’ve seen too many bad movies, but I’m a huge fan of ancient prehistoric animals.  When they’re similar to things like we have today, they’re even more interesting.  Why did the crocodiles with boar-like tusks and duck-like bills die out, and why do we have the crocs we have today?

I have to admit, I’ve never heard of Expedition Week before, but now that I’ve seen just some of the cool stuff they’re discussing, I’m going to have to make it a point to catch it.  I have the National Geographic Channel, and I’m kicking myself for having missed some of the awesome specials they have.  That’s what I call edutainment!

Misspelled Sign Declares Independence From Spell Check

Posted 9/02/2010 11:30 am by Ron Hogan

Given the abysmal state of most school text books these days when it comes to spelling errors, typos, and general inaccuracies, it’s no wonder when people don’t take the time to proofread things very closely before they make them.  For example, in Charlotte, North Carolina, there’s a road called Independence Boulevard.  However, when the North [...]

There’s an old rhetorical question concerning how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.  Well, I can’t answer that, but I can tell you how many of the Old World’s tiniest frogs can sit on the end of a pencil.  If we’re talking about the Microhyla nepenthicola, a super-tiny frog that lives [...]

When you’re making an incredibly unhealthy sandwich, you have two options.  One, you can skip the bread and make yourself a snack with two slices of meat with toppings between them.  Or, you can go the other route and take bread and wrap it around more bread.  No matter what you do, throw in as [...]
