Alice, from the wonderful Wonderland blog, has a nerd Christmas tree.   As you can see from the picture I linked, it’s not exactly the most full tree in the Christmas pantheon of decorated Douglas firs.  That’s why she’s been looking for new nerdy tree decorations; thanks to Etsy and other crafts sites, she’s discovered the mother lode!

If you ever wanted to break into a geeky friend’s house and start guerrilla decorating his or her place for the holidays, this is a great place to start buying your decorations.   I’ve seen a lot of these kind of things over the years, but never such an exhaustive collection of ornaments.  Plus, things like the Mario-style stars like you see to your right are universal!  They’re both geeky cool AND traditionally Christmas!

The more I search, the more I find that the best ornaments are hand-crafted ones.  The ones like I made when I was  a kid and the ones like you can find on Etsy are the coolest ornaments you can get, if only because nobody else has like them (or less people have those same ornaments).  It’s a great way to turn a boring old tree into a conversation piece with your fellow dorks!
