Workers at a Kmart in Des Moines, Iowa, had a red tin sitting at their customer service counter for four days. Eventually, someone opened it. When they did, they discovered a pile of money. Specifically, someone left $10,380 in cold, hard cash sitting around for nearly a week. Fortunately for Joe Heithoff, the man who lost the can of money, they’re a bit more honest than I would have been in that situation.
I’d like to think I’m an honest guy, but $10,000 is a LOT of money. That’s not the kind of find I could’ve turned into store security. That’s the kind of wad that ends up coming home with me, at least until I heard about Heithoff losing the money due to a reaction to medication. Then my guilt would kick in and I’d return what I still had of the money to the guy who lost it.
I’m poor, but I’m also easily guilt-tripped.
