Brad Davis is one of many cattle breeders in the small town of Sterling, Connecticut. When his newest little calf, a half-Jersey half-Holstein, was born, its brown body and little white forehead marking wasn’t remarkable. Then the fur dried and settled into the way it was going to stay on the baby, and that’s when he saw it. That little cow had a cross-shaped white X on its forehead. Lots of cows have white spots, but I don’t know of any cows that bear crosses.
This is a little cow with a big responsibility. When other cows hit their teenage years and start going out to get into trouble, he’s going to have to behave himself. Not only does he carry a holy symbol on his forehead, it’s the sort of rarity that makes a criminal easily identified.
