For years, people have talked about getting three-dimensional television into homes. However, aside from DVDs of 3-D movies and the occasional gimmick night of programming, there’s no real headway. The problem with 3-D is that the process of making the image three dimensional requires a lot of processing power and a special process to convert images from flat video into that red-blue/blurry 3-D film stock. However, HDlogix is developing a new process to create 3-D on the fly and they’re testing it on the biggest HD TV in the world: the scoreboard at Cowboys Stadium. Lucky fans at this weekend’s Dallas Cowboys/San Diego Chargers game will not only get to watch a football game, they’ll also get to see the world’s first live 3-D television broadcast!
If anyone’s going to do this right, it’s going to be the NFL. If anyone’s going to spend a crazy amount of money to be the first and best at something, it’s definitely Jerry Jones. He’s always had a flair for the dramatic, and this kind of stunt is right down his alley. It’s going to happen this Sunday. I’m interested in seeing what HDlogix’s ImageIQ process can do, aren’t you? I’ve always wanted some 3-D TV.
