Man, that swine flu really is a pandemic, isn’t it? while it hasn’t been as dangerous to humans as everyone thought, it has been pretty infectious. After all, it started in pigs and spread to humans, cats, dogs, and even Santa Clauses. Now, the latest animal to fall victim to swine flu? Gijima, an 8-year-old cheetah at the Safari West Wildlife Preserve and African Tent Camp in Santa Rosa, California. Even cheetahs get the flu.
Caretakers at the preserve said they spotted the cheetah acting lethargic. Given that cats are lethargic all the time, nobody noticed anything wrong until they also realized she wasn’t interested in her food and was coughing. Given how much cats generally eat, that was a warning sign.
A few tests later and Gijima is California’s latest swine flu victim. She’ll be placed on a strict diet of garlic and onions and quarantined from the other animals, to spare them from infection/exposure to her rancid breath. Actually, she’s already made a full recovery, even without her garlic rations.
