A few days ago, I wrote up an article about a Chinese national who was trying to sneak into Japan illegally after having her fingerprints surgically changed, and I mentioned how this kind of crime was only going to become more common? Well, Francis Viliar had a similar idea. This suspected drug trafficker paid someone $400 to hack off the pads of his fingers in an attempt to hide his fingerprints with scar tissue. Unfortunately for Viliar, he got busted speeding in Brockton, Massachussetts and experts were able to (eventually) get usable fingerprints off his scarred digits.
It was a good attempt by Viliar to duck his 13 warrants, but I guess to completely avoid fingerprinting all together, you need to go further than just scarring and swapping your skin around. Just cut off your fingertips, leaving yourself finger nubs on both hands. You won’t be able to throw a curve ball again, but at least you’ll be able to deal drugs and commit crimes with impunity, right? With the money you make, you’ll eventually be able to buy a robot hand.
