Merry Christmas From PopFi

Posted 12/25/2009 10:45 am by Ron Hogan

victorian-style-christmas-tree.jpg

I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Festivus, Happy Kwanzaa, or Joyous Whatever You Celebrate in December.  Since I took over PopFi as my very own baby website, I’ve put in a lot of time and energy both in front of the audience and behind the scenes, and I’m grateful for all my readers.  I hope that I’ve made your holidays a little brighter with my stories of bank-robbing Santas and drunk revelers.

Here’s hoping that, in the year to come, Krampus finds it in his coal-black heart to have mercy on you and yours next Christmas.   If he doesn’t, at least we can all enjoy a nice Christmas LOLCat and watch kittens attack Christmas tree ornaments.  Have a happy holiday, gang.  Thanks for stopping by on Christmas.

Posted 9/03/2010 8:00 am by Ron Hogan

Sometimes, it’s hard to turn your viral video success into legitimate money, but that hasn’t been a problem for Paul “Bear” Vasquez.  The organic-farming former cage fighter and firefighter from Mariposa, California, shot to fame as the double rainbow guy, a hugely popular viral video in which Bear, on one of his many swimming trips [...]

Guns N’ Roses Driven Offstage By Irish Music Fans

Posted 9/03/2010 7:00 am by Ron Hogan

Guns N’ Roses hasn’t had a trouble-free concert tour in, well… probably ever.  Throughout the band’s history, there’s always been some kind of drama, from the band’s perennial lateness, to cutting gigs short early, being cut off by promoters, and even starting riots.  GNR, in some sense, is the last real rock band, because they’re [...]

Posted 9/02/2010 9:00 am by Ron Hogan

Conan O’Brien, to me, is one of the funniest guys to ever be on late night television, and I’ve been waiting for the official announcement of the name of his new show for weeks now.  Well, ever since it was announced that Conan would be going to TBS, I’ve been waiting patiently for a new [...]

Sometimes You Gotta Dance

Posted 9/01/2010 9:30 am by Ron Hogan

I’m a pretty smart guy, so I know what I can do and I know my limitations.  I can slow dance a little, but when the tempo increases or if there’s choreography involved, forget it.  I’ve tried, and while I’m willing to get up on stage and make a fool of myself, I just can’t [...]

Fire Tornado

Posted 8/26/2010 8:30 am by Ron Hogan

It’s one of the most unusual weather phenomena I’ve ever seen.  In the Brazilian region of Aracatuba, an incredibly rare fire tornado was spotted.  All it took was a raging brush fire, some whipping winds, and viola, you’ve got one of the most incredible videos I’ve ever seen.  This is the kind of thing that [...]

Brennan S. Eden is the luckiest, and dumbest, criminal in the world right now.  While behind the wheel of a classic Pontiac Firebird, he decided to do his best Smokey and the Bandit impression and evade the police so he could avoid arrest on charges of speeding and reckless driving and whatnot.  However, what he [...]

Deputy Brandon Jenkins, a deputy sheriff with Wake County, North Carolina’s Wake County Sheriff’s Department, has undoubtedly seen a lot of strange things during his time in uniform.  However, there’s no amount of police training that can prepare you for what Deputy Jenkins dealt with recently.  When investigating a truck spill, Jenkins noticed some spilled [...]

Microsoft Returns To The Skies

Posted 8/18/2010 10:30 am by Ron Hogan

In January 2009, it seemed as though Microsoft’s venerable series of flight simulator games, dubbed Microsoft Flight Simulator, was doomed to die off.  The team, responsible for many hit games, was let go.  After all, the last Microsoft Flight Simulator, Microsoft Flight Simulator X, came out in 2006.  That’s a huge gap with no products [...]

Roger Federer’s William Tell Moment

Posted 8/18/2010 9:30 am by Ron Hogan

Roger Federer may only be the second-best men’s tennis player in the world, but when it comes to tennis, second best is still really, really good.  We’re talking better than thousands of other people who play tennis on a professional level, and better than millions of weekend amateurs.  That’s why, when presented with a video [...]

Justin Bieber Gets Brained

Posted 8/10/2010 11:30 am by Ron Hogan

It’s weird.  I don’t hate Justin Bieber.  I’ve never actually listened to him or paid him any attention.  Yet, when he gets hurt, I really enjoy it.  For example, when Justin Bieber walked into that glass door?  I laughed like crazy.  When I saw the video where Justin Bieber gets hit in the head with [...]

Google Ends Google Wave

Posted 8/05/2010 8:30 am by Ron Hogan

It launched with great fanfare.  For days, all anyone wanted was an invitation to join up to Google Wave.  It was supposed to be the next big thing in project use, collaboration, online data sharing, and all the other buzzwords tossed around so casually by technology writers.  Unfortunately, once a lot of people (myself included) [...]

Microsoft Wants You To “Be What’s Next”

Posted 7/23/2010 10:30 am by Ron Hogan

Is Microsoft shaking up the familiar window box logo after many years of faithful service?  Well, yes and no.  In a way they are, because the company is launching a new ad campaign centered around the new slogan, “Be What’s Next.“  In a way, no, because they’re not really changing their old-school logo and graphics [...]
