The Isle of Man is one of the safest places to live in all of Europe, and that was before the crime rates started to mysteriously plunge. Just what is keeping the Manx on the straight and narrow these days? The new £41.7 million pound prison in Jurby that was just completed last year is completely non-smoking, so criminals are giving up crime to keep their cigarettes. Not only can prisoners not smoke, the guards who want to have a puff have to leave the property to do so!
The prison is one of the few in the world that has empty beds. Inmates get counseling and free nicotine patches to help them kick their habit, but in order to keep their vice, criminals are reforming and staying out of jail. It makes you wonder if something like that might work in America, no? Maybe if we had some smoke-free jails we could get people to stop robbing and shooting and whatnot!
