If you have a bad memory from 2009, there’s only one way to get rid of it. Shred it. That’s the idea behind Good Riddance Day, in which people take to the streets of New York City and shred bad memories from the previous year. Divorced? Shred the papers. Your favorite sports team lost? Shred the paper with the loss. Whatever your trouble, you can probably find a machine to mangle it into a million pieces.
It’s all part of the Times Square Alliance’s build-up to tonight’s New Year’s Eve ball-drop ceremony. There’s no better outlook to have in a new year than to cast aside the bad baggage of 2009 and embrace the opportunities 2010 has to offer. Feel free to shred something that reminds you of your crappy 2009 today, so you can start the new year with good karma and a positive outlook.
Yeesh, that’s disgustingly chipper, isn’t it? I must not be getting enough sleep, because this must be some sort of delusional mood swing. I’m never the positive outlook guy; I’m always the gloom-and-doomer. Somebody must’ve shredded my old personality in one of those wood chippers.
