When Robert Cushnie picked up a life-sized 6-foot-tall model of an orc, one of the green-skinned warriors from the World of Warcraft universe, he knew he had the coolest collectible imaginable. After all, how often do you get one of those big store displays? He’d been lucky to snag it from a closing book store in Falkirk, and as such, he held onto his prized statue for six long years. Then, his wife got sick of it and told him to get rid of the orc or she was going to move back to Canada. Sadly, his wife won, and geeks everywhere shed a silent tear.
I’m not huge into World of Warcraft’s lore, but I do enjoy the game and as hobbies go, it’s really cheap compared to some other things I could be doing with my time, like collecting stamps. That said, I do have a lot of DVDs, action figures, and other general collectibles that I’ve picked up over the years, most of which relate to my nerdish love of horror movies, classic monsters, or Mystery Science Theater 3000.
I dread the day I’m told, “It’s me or the toys.”
