These days, you can’t be too careful when you’re going through the airport. That’s why a passenger with a few bottles of honey caused the complete shutdown of the Meadows Field Airport. TSA agents mistook the honey for… some kind of weapon during a routine security screening and then everything went crazy. The airport was immediately locked down, a hazardous material crew AND the bomb squad were called in, and nobody thought to put a tray of biscuits in the oven to test out the honey hypothesis.
The funniest part of the story isn’t that someone thought honey was an explosive, it’s that two TSA agents (no doubt named Winston T. Pooh and Christopher Robin) were treated and released at a nearby hospital after exposure to honey fumes. I’m not sure why exactly they had to be treated for honey exposure; did they take a sniff from the inside of the bottle and assume their rumbling hungry stomachs were caused by some sort of evil chemicals? Honey is harmless; it’s the bees you have to worry about.
No word on whether or not the passenger was eventually allowed to return to the Honeycomb Hideout.
