Meet Roxxxy, the world’s first chatting sexbot. Well, maybe the world’s second chatting sexbot; however, Roxxxy is the first one to leave her owner’s bedroom and get out into the world at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. She and her various varieties (and her planned brother Rocky) are the creation of artificial intelligence engineer Douglas Hines, who says his devices are more than just sex toys; they’re responsive partners.
Quoth Hines, “She’s a companion. She has a personality. She hears you. She listens to you. She speaks. She feels your touch. She goes to sleep. We are trying to replicate a personality of a person.”
At 5’7 and 120 pounds, Roxxxy has an articulated metal skeleton that allows her to move like a real person. She also has the ability to hold a conversation, snores when she’s asleep, and even has a robotic heart to pump coolant throughout her body. She’s as real as you can get, except she’s got no soul, free will, or ability to walk away. We’re getting dangerously close to Fritz Lang’s Maschinenmensch.
