Avatar is a full-fledged box office phenomenon. It’s already the second-highest grossing movie of all time, just behind Titanic. Both those films were written, directed, and produced by James Cameron, who also did Aliens and The Terminator and a bunch of other brilliant movies. However, Avatar‘s plot about a depleted earth and humanity’s invasion of the jungle world Pandora to leech its natural resources is apparently making the audiences as blue as the Na’vi. That’s right, Avatar is causing depression in audiences.
Now, I’m one of five people in the US that hasn’t seen Avatar yet, so I can’t tell you if it gave me the blues or not. However, I did get a little misty-eyed at the trailer for Toy Story 3, and those effects aren’t half as good as the incredible world Cameron has built in Avatar. Movies definitely have a lot of power on their audience, especially when in the hands of one of the most brilliant directors in moviedom today.
