It’s been called the Death Metal Rooster.  While some birds have golden pipes, making beautiful music with their songs, this is a creaky old chanticleer with a throat like a finishing nail being dragged across a rusted out rain barrel.  That horrible croaky crow actually makes it significantly more awesome, because singing badly and loudly is the most metal thing you can do.

When you think about it, roosters are the heavy metal musicians of the barnyard world.  I mean, they strut around like they own the place, just like a preening musician on stage.  They’ve got a big, red mohawk-like growth on the top of their head and the big red wattle for a metal singer beard.  They fight all the time, flapping and scrapping like a mosh pit veteran.  Plus, if you mess with them, they’ve got those claws, which are like the studded leather bracelets that metal dudes wear.

If that doesn’t get you out of bed, nothing short of explosives will!  Cock-a-doodle-die! (The backing track is from a band called Talanas, by the way.  If they need a lead singer, they should go with this chicken.)

All they need are some leather pants and a cheap beer, and they’re like every metal show I’ve ever been to.
