How something like the Dalby Spook got past me for so long I’ll never know. The legendary creature has been around since 1930, but I’ve never heard about this peculiar legend from the Isle of Manx. The Dalby Spook is actually a talking mongoose named Gef who was discovered by the Irving family’s then-teenage daughter Voirrey. Now, experts believe that Gef was actually a poltergeist, which makes a lot more sense considering how Gef was always described.
While Gef was described as a mongoose-like creature, he also had yellow fur and a flat snout, neither of which is very mongoose-like. Gef also had a temper, threw things at people, and made exaggerated claims about his own powers, all of which are fairly stereotypical poltergeist behaivor. Considering Gef was first spotted by the teenage Voirrey and poltergeists are drawn to teenage girls. Could it be possible that the reasonable explanation is a ghost!?
