The match-up has been set, and the stars are two Pro-Bowl quarterbacks. Those old axioms that defense wins championships, and that running wins in the playoffs? Throw those completely out the window, as two of the NFL’s most potent offensive clubs are going to be meeting in the league’s championship game. The New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts threw their way into Super Bowl XLIV in Miami, Florida, after Indy’s beating of the Cinderella New York Jets and New Orleans’ overtime squeaker over the Minnesota Vikings.
This will be the first Super Bowl appearance for New Orleans, who spent most of their NFL years as one of the worst teams in the league. They’ve long since lost the Aints nickname. As for Indianapolis, this is their second Super Bowl appearance in four years, and the third total for the Colts franchise. As the Baltimore Colts, they represented the NFL in the infamous Super Bowl III, where Joe Namath and the Jets shocked the sporting world. Now they’re the overdogs yet again, squaring off against the upstart representatives from the NFC.
