A 9-year-old girl checked into Changchun Hospital in the northeastern province of Jilin in China with an unusual complaint. Apparently, she was 9 months pregnant. Not long after that, she delivered a healthy 6-pound baby boy. This is a thorny legal issue, since in China, girls under 14 are incapable of consenting to sex, so the family is in a thorny legal area here with their young daughter’s younger progeny. Just goes to show you that teen pregnancy is a problem all over, huh.
Assuming it’s all real, anyway; whenever you’re dealing with a child that’s so far below her teenage years, it makes my doubtometer flare up. Take this story with a grain of salt. Actually, it’s more like a bucket of salt–until I see a picture of this preteen and her baby together from a news source that isn’t in China, I’m not buying it. Still, if an 11-year-old can get pregnant and have a baby on her wedding day, I guess anything is possible.
