It’s Super Bowl weekend, and that means most of you out there (at least in America) are going to a party on Sunday, hosting a party on Sunday, or settling down to watch a football game this weekend. While the National Football League has finally managed to match up two of the best teams in the league in the big game this year, the halftime show is destined to be a disappointment. Prince aside, since Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction put the phrase ‘wardrobe malfunction’ into the lexicon, it’s been pretty lousy, and this year’s antiques roadshow of The Who and Bon Jovi isn’t looking to be much better. Fortunately, there are alternatives!
For example, this is the sixth year for Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl, and starting lineups were released yesterday. It’s an all-star game of adorable, romping baby dogs, with a special kitty-based halftime show of its own. It’s a personal favorite, and one of the longest-running counter programming initiatives on cable TV.
If that’s a little too cute for you, then perhaps Spike TV (The Network For MEN!) will have something more your style. They’re going to run the Commercial Bowl; basically, it’s a line-up of the best and most memorable commercials from Super Bowls past. It’s actually starting just after the real Super Bowl ends, so if you missed a commercial, now you won’t be left in the dark. This is the ninth year in a row for this incredibly popular special.
