Thanks to my menial day job, I spend a lot of time being bored. What I didn’t know was that being bored can kill you, according to a study from the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London. A longitudinal study was made of over 7,500 civil servants, ages 35-55, who were followed over 25 years. As it turns out, those who were bored more often were over 40 percent more likely to end up dead than those who weren’t bored.
Said Martin Shipley, one of the co-writers, “The findings on heart disease show there was sufficient evidence to say there is a link with boredom. It is important that people who have dull jobs find outside interests to keep boredom at bay, rather than turn to drinking or smoking.”
So, the next time you’re sitting bored at work, pick up that pen and start spinning it. Better yet, start browsing through the archives of PopFi and keep yourself entertained so you don’t end up dead! It’s all about making your life more meaningful and entertaining.
