One of the most important rules of any criminal is learning how to hide in plain sight.  That is, you blend into the crowd, into the environment, be just another person wandering around in the aisles of the store before you make your shoplift.  That’s how you get away with that sort of thing.  It takes a lot of practice, and unfortunately, not everyone has that kind of patience.

For example, when a nameless 26-year-old in Riverton, Wyoming shoplifted a bottle of Schnapps and a pack of cough drops,  he wasn’t cool about it and just snatched and ran.  It was definitely not the perfect crime, and the problems were compounded when he hid from the law by ducking into the police station.  Whoops!

By the time the man realized where he was hiding, it was already too late.  The dispatcher had spotted him on the surveillance system and called in one of the local units to make the arrest.  Unsurprisingly, the man was drunk at the time of his arrest.
