Right now, it’s snowing outside. All day yesterday, I listened to people who were planning on running out to the stores to pick up three things: milk, eggs, and bread. Any time bad weather hits, or threatens, or is even suspected, the first three things anyone picks up are milk, eggs, and bread, as if there’s going to be a need for serious emergency French toast during a snowed-in period (assuming the power lasts). Now, there’s a great website that’ll tell you if it’s time for you to pick up fixings called French Toast Alert dot com! I saw it in the comments of a Consumerist article on Washington, DC’s snow storm and spent a good chunk of yesterday entering random zip codes for it to see if Yahoo! Weather’s forecast showed the threat of snow.
I thought I was the only one who immediately thought, “Is there going to be a need to make French toast during the storm?” when I hear about the run on fresh produce during a snowstorm. I know that sometimes you need to stock up and get yourself prepared, but those three products are the first things people buy, when I don’t thing my family goes through a carton of eggs in a two weeks. I guess it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and be stuck without it.
