The best thing about drinking is it lowers your inhibitions. You’re more relaxed, a little more social, and a lot more brazen. Unfortunately, that’s also the worst thing about drinking, as one nameless drunk found out recently. The Tyrol Basin Ski and Snowboard Area near Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin, is pretty popular around this time of year, which means there are a lot of novice skiiers getting hurt. As such, responders from the Fitch-Rona EMS are usually on hand. So when a drunk guy decided to go for a joyride, he was able to grab their ambulance and speed off. To his undoubted surprise, there was a patient and paramedics inside the ambulance.
Now, there have been drunks using 911 responders as a taxi service, but this kind of cuts out the middleman and ups the potential of drunk driving arrest. Nobody’s really willing to comment as to how the guy in Mt. Horeb was able to jack an ambulance with a crew inside (and while the emergency brake was on), which is understandable. That has to be pretty embarrassing.
