The Chinese village of Daluo in Guangxi’s Bama County is known as a place where the residents are blessed with a long lifespan. Indeed, with 74 centenarians from the village of 238,000, it is identified as a “hometown of longevity” by the International Natural Medicine Society. The elders claimed their good health was due to waters blessed by mysterious fish in the waters of Fu Yuan Dong, the Cave of Fortune. The young people, as they are wont to do, dismissed it as a fairy tale. As it turns out, it’s true.
Well, the fish are true anyway. Researchers fished up a bunch of the weird-looking things recently, and they seem to be a new species (or at least an unrecognizable mutation of an older species). The most notable feature of these fish are their little curly mustache-like feelers, which give them a Magnum P.I.-type fishy charisma.
