A group of Czech doctors in the town of Ivancice are left with egg on their faces.  Not because of something they did, but more something they didn’t do.  After performing surgery on 66-year-old Zdenka Kopeckova, the doctors closed her up and sent her on her way having left a foot-long spatula-like object inside her abdomen.  You’d think you’d notice something like that missing, wouldn’t you?  I mean, it’s a whole lot bigger than a plastic spoon or a fir tree seedling, and it’s a whole lot more metallic than some knitting needles, so I don’t see how this escaped notice.

The worst part of the whole thing is that the woman went back to the doctors in pain repeatedly, yet it still took them five months to figure out that someone left a foot of metal stuck in her innards.  A simple X-ray would’ve revealed that in seconds!  Four employees have been disciplined, and the woman says she plans to sue.  Odds are pretty good that she’ll be getting some money out of this epic medical mistake.
