Actually, it’s got nothing to do with the Swingline brand of staplers, but it is art made out of staples. The mural of Phaeton’s fall is called Aggravure, by French artist Baptiste Debombourg, is put together with just 35,000 staples. The mural, done in the Italian Renaissance style, took him over 75 hours to construct. You can check out a great, widescreen set of views of it at Neatorama’s new Spotlight blog. That’s incredible, isn’t it?
That’s what’s so amazing about artists. They can turn anything into art, no matter how mundane the material might be. From coffee to cinnamon and even dirt, anything can become a beautiful image. That’s why I’m not an artist. Well, for one, I can’t draw, and for the other, I’m not quite that good about thinking outside the box. I look at dirt or staples and I don’t think of Michelangelo.
