It’s time once again to celebrate one of my favorite yearly events, National Grammar Day! When it comes to weird–but necessary–holidays, there’s nothing quite like a day in which to celebrate the proper manipulation of the English language. After all, having read some of the spelling and grammar mistakes that are commonly made on signs, in magazines, and on billboards every day, you become acutely aware of just how much people take the language for granted and how little most folks actually know about their verbal communication system.
That’s not implying that I am immune to those very same mistakes; in fact, as much as I write and as often as I write, I probably make more mistakes than the average person, if only because I’m constantly thinking about things other than what I’m currently working on, not always awake while writing, etc. Still, I’d rather know of my mistakes and fix them than not know my mistakes and leave them for posterity.
