In a move that will definitely interfere with her dating life in a few years, 11-year-old Trinette Robinson of Bristol, Connecticut, has taken home the top prize in this year’s National Odor-Eaters Rotten Sneaker Contest. Held annually in Montpelier, Vermont, the contest is sponsored by Odor-Eaters, a company that makes insoles and other products designed to take the stink of feet from the average person’s shoe. Trinette bested nine other children, ages 6-16, to take home the top prize in the 35th edition of the yearly event. She won $2500 and a free trip to New York City as a reward for her slovenliness.
Trinette credits her win to Girl Scouts, saying she got her shoes so dirty by playing hard at camp and doing community charity walks. Second place was 6-year-old Madilyn Tyler of West Jordan, Utah. Something tells me after judging that contest, there’s not enough jars of fresh air in the world to make that funk go away!
Just to be helpful, when I want to clean the smell from my shoes I do the following: A) spray the insides with Febreeze and B) put them in a plastic bag, then seal them up and put them in the freezer overnight. When I get my shoes out in the morning, the smell is mostly gone!
