There’ve been Christmas robbers and other unusual disguises, but by far the most common mask for lawbreakers to don these days is Spider-Man. Moreso than any other superhero, Spider-Man is the go-to mask for all manner of criminal, both the armed and dangerous type and the confused, nervous, not-really-a-bad-kid type. One happened just yesterday in Australia, featuring the world’s most polite armed robber. The question is, why? What’s the attraction criminals have to Spider-Man, aside from his skin-tight outfit? (I’d imagine the cool color scheme helps out quite a bit, too.)
My best guess is that, while Batman’s mask only covers part of your face (as does Wolverine), Spider-Man’s mask is a full-head covering. There’s nothing exposed by a Spidey mask, and they’re everywhere these days after three mega-hit Spider-Films. It’s a testament to Marvel’s marketing department that Spider-Man is so ubiquitous.
