There are early adopters, and there’s Greg Packer, the king of the early adopters. Way back in 2007, Greg Packer, a highway maintenance worker in New York City, was the first person in line to buy a first generation iPhone. Three years later, and guess who is at the front of the line at New York City’s flagship Apple Store for his iPad? That’s right, the iLoser himself, Greg Packer. The same guy got first editions of the iPhone and iPad.
Unlike at the iPhone launch, there was actually no need to wait for days to pick up the iPad. It shipped, for free, over the weekend. However, maybe Packer just likes to wait in lines for stuff, or he likes the attention he gets from being Apple’s #1 fan.
Everyone has to have a hobby. Greg Packer is no different than those people who line up to be the first to see a new movie, or who line up to get the best concert tickets. Given how quickly the iPad sold out, maybe waiting in line to get one was the best idea he’s had in awhile.
