Toyota was so proud of itself. By delaying those necessary recalls for fault accelerator pedals, the company had saved close to $100 million dollars at the cost of untold lives. Suffice it to say, thanks in no small part to that bragging, the company deserves the fines it’s getting, and more. Here’s hoping they saved their blood money, because the record $16.4 million dollar fine leveled against the company by the National Highways Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is only the beginning of the company’s woes.
“We now have proof that Toyota failed to live up to its legal obligations,” said Transportation secretary Ray LaHood. “Worse yet, they knowingly hid a dangerous defect for months from US officials and did not take action to protect millions of drivers and their families.”
Since the company saved $100 million, I think the fine should’ve been $100 million dollars, don’t you? I mean, considering that people have died because of this greedy company’s shoddy product, it’s only fair. Here’s hoping that the many, many lawsuits against the company for its faulty accelerator pedals wins a gigantic punitive judgment.
